Hello! My name is Ben Tassell, I am a guitarist and composer from Victoria, BC. I carry a Diploma in guitar performance from Selkirk College and am currently in 4th year of the Composition Degree program at MacEwan University. My musical experiences have been diverse to say the least. I started as a bass player in a ska band before forming a rock band in high school. I was then inspired by the challenge of playing in the orchestra for musical theatre productions – even at one point having to learn a little banjo. Since school I have been fortunate enough to play in jazz duets, rock bands, fusion outfits, R&B groups and as a soloist. Outside of playing I’ve also soaked up knowledge as a bit of a gear head and as a fretted instrument repairman. These days you can catch me around town performing with Celeigh Cardinal as a duo or in our killer 4-piece band.

Music has given me so much as someone open to new ideas and obstacles. It is with this philosophy I try to strike a balance in my teaching, between enjoying the music we play and overcoming the challenges that come with getting better. There is always something to learn, regardless of taste and style. Everyone is different but the most important thing is consistency and I have found students learn best from music they love. Together, there are no boundaries to your success in music. See you soon!
