Hi! I’m Jyn-Ting Ying and I teach piano and music theory at Resonate Music School. I started taking piano lessons when I was very young, which sparked my passion for music and music education. I studied classical piano for most of my youth. I started attending MacEwan University in 2015 for a change in pace, giving me some skills for jazz and improvisation. In April 2022, I graduated with my BMus with Distinction as a Composition Major. My musical career started in high school, where I participated in multiple festivals with the bands and choir. From there, I sang with Kokopelli Choirs Association (2015-2021), which gave me opportunities to perform at the Winspear Centre with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. There are a couple of other places you can catch me if not at Resonate! I’m the accompanist at Sorry, Not Sorry Productions, an improv theatre company that does shows frequently at the Grindstone Theatre and the Edmonton Fringe Festival. I’m also the pianist in All4Jazz Entertainment, a local jazz trio that occasionally plays public shows, but mostly does private gigs as background easy listening. I’m comfortable with teaching classical piano, as well as pop, musical theatre, and jazz improvisation. I like to integrate a mix of genres to keep lessons engaging! Whether you want to play piano for fun or you’re preparing for post secondary music, I will happily guide you through this step of your music education. I look forward to seeing you around!
