Ryan McEathron

Hello! My name is Ryan McEathron and I teach drums, percussion, and beginner piano. I’ve been playing for nearly 30 years in the styles of rock, hip-hop, jazz, punk, country, heavy metal, and even orchestral music. In April 2020 I completed my Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Pop Music at MacEwan University with a major in drumset performance. As part of my experience at MacEwan I was a member of Showcase Band and the Percussion Ensemble. I also spent 5 months studying with Finland’s top drummer Tommi Rautiainen and was the university’s drum technician for 3 years.

Music has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a musical household where I was exposed to all different kinds of music and began gigging professionally with my father when I was 17 years old and since then have played music and toured with bands all over Western Canada. I’ve been teaching music lessons for 8 years now to students of all ages and abilities and I absolutely love it! I try to teach drums and inspire practicing in a fun, respectful, and encouraging environment.

I believe that any individual is capable of learning the drums with the right instructor, guidance, resources, teaching strategy, and encouragement. Each student is unique and I recognize that the same teaching strategies that are successful with most students may not be successful with all students. I am ready and willing to explore different ways of communicating and explaining drumset playing and the theory associated with it. Depending on the age, maturity, and goals of the student I am careful to always balance education with fun and the personal goals of the student always influence the direction I take with lessons.

Let’s get creative, learn, and have fun!
