Evan McArthur

Greetings! I’m Evan McArthur and I teach guitar, ukulele, and bass at Resonate Music School & Studio.

I started my musical journey on the drums at a young age. I then hopped between various instruments before settling on the guitar. At the time my focus was folk, punk, and indie. I studied songwriting styles with a vocal coach who encouraged me to pursue post secondary. My guitar instructors showed me a variety of music styles but I settled on jazz as a precursor to enrolling at MacEwan University.

My initial focus of study at MacEwan was performance. After receiving my diploma with a Performance major, I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. I’m currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in music with a general major and a music career management minor, where my main interests are sound art and the inner workings of the creative process.

Before coming to Resonate, I had been teaching private music lessons for 5 years. During which time, I taught a wide range of students with an even wider range of interest and skill. Many of my students kept with it for their sheer love of music and some have gone on with their own pursuit of post secondary music education. I am comfortable teaching a wide range of musical genres including rock, blues, jazz, punk, metal, folk, indie, and classical. My focus is to set achievable goals and choose repertoire based on student interest. To keep things interesting, I like to change the pace with discussions about music theory and guitar pedagogical technique. Whatever you’re looking for with music lessons, I look forward to meeting you and working with you to achieve your music goals!
