REND – October 2013 Band Of The Month
Who Are They?
Rend is an Edmonton based, 5 piece, electrifying Rock/Pop band. Picture a dash of Metric, a scoop of Coldplay, a layer of Paramore, sprinkled with MUSE and Foo Fighters, topped off with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. When you listen to Rend you get a new experience with every song. They are a Canadian band inspired to inspire. You will hear driving rhythms, Zeppelin worthy guitar solos, synth pop hook lines, and dynamic, soulful vocals.
Founded in 2010 by lead singer/songwriter Carol-Lynne Quinn, these past 3 years have been an incredible journey. This past year has been a whirlwind of activity, including showcasing at Indie Week Canada 2012, Canadian Music Week 2013, opening for Faber Drive, being nominated for a 2013 Edmonton Music Award, being named SONiC 102.9’s Band of the Month, playing countless shows across Canada and releasing two music videos. Carol-Lynne Quinn recently won the 2013 New Music West songwriting competition for her composition of “No Lines”.
Rend’s vision is to bring musical and lyrical substance to their music. Whether it’s the anthem like chorus in “Battlecry” or the unique blend of soulful vocals, electric guitar and strings in “No Lines”, Rend is fresh, energy filled, and inspiring.
Their independent, debut album has received Canadian wide radio play. Their debut single: rock/pop power song “Hide” reached number 64 on the Canadian Rock Charts. “No Lines” and “Battlecry” have also been featured on Canadian radio and their soul infused song “Hands Clean” was recently placed in a film produced in Los Angeles.
Performing live is one of the most important aspects for Rend. Being able to let go, connect to the audience, and just make great music is what it’s all about.
To really understand Rend, one must attend a live show to truly experience the energy, musicality, passion, chemistry and skill this band possesses.
For such a fresh band they have already caught the attention and support of many. Sandra Sperounes from the Edmonton Journal commented “together, the five make up (or perhaps unrend) Rend, one of Edmonton’s newest – and fiercest – pop-rock bands. “Quinn” might just be the next great voice to come out of Canada.” Kevin Mainmann from the Edmonton Examiner commented on their debut “No Lines is drenched in powerful melodies anchored by Carol-Lynne’s vocal acrobatics, with hints of soul weaving into potent radio-rock hooks.” Indie 403 states “Rend, an incredible new pop-rock band out of Edmonton, brings us everything we’ve been waiting for, and their debut album No Lines is one of the most mind-blowing displays of talent we’ve seen in a while.”
To put it simply Rend is five passionate people who love music, people, and putting on a great show.
Rend’s highly anticipated sophomore EP, “Winter To Summer” is set to release November 9th, 2013.
Winter To Summer was recorded in the Resonate Recording Studio, produced and engineered by Justin McDonough and Kevin Hoskin, mixed by Justin McDonough, and mastered by Greg Calbi.
